Blue Ridge Parkway: Pisgah Inn

I've wanted to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway for a long time. I finally got my chance and started driving from the southern end. Just about dinner time, I ran into the Pisgah Inn near the high point of the Parkway. It's a lodge and restaurant. It promised to be just the dinner experience I had hoped for. Here is the view from my table:
The restaurant is nice but casual, as one would expect in a national park. The servers were all extremely friendly and helpful.
I tried the pork chop, which I thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to the cole slaw and squash, it came with a cauliflower and beef soup. For dessert, I splurged and had a piece of apple pie. The crust was very buttery and it capped off the pork perfectly. This meal was the perfect capstone to a day full of unexpected pleasures. Pisgah Inn Restaurant on Urbanspoon

Hyesoon and I went to Golden Buddha on Clairmont for dinner. I've driven by there dozens of times and never been in. Even if I had, I probably wouldn't have ordered the right things. It turns out that this restaurant has a big reputation among Georgia Tech students as a good place for Chinese/Korean food that is good and reasonable. The restaurant is totally nondescript and, like many Asian restaurants, have a special menu that they generally give to Asians but not Causasians. I suspect that some of their dishes are ho-hum, but I definitely enjoyed our meal from the special menu.

Decatur: Janet's Kitchen

I just enjoyed a delicious, hearty dinner at Janet's Kitchen. It is located on Clairmont near Scott Boulevard. The restaurant is well-organized for both dining in and takeout. The prices are quite reasonable, too. The owners, who are very nice people who clearly love what they do, explained that Janet is his mom and that they named the restaurant after her. My pork adobo was hearty and delicious. The sauce was tangy, nicely salty, and very, very porky. I actually ate all the beans first---creamy and delicious. The rice was sticky, all the better for sopping up gravy. I also used the buttery cornbread to soak up the sauce.

Seattle: Blueacre

Blueacre is a chef-owned on 7th Street in downtown Seattle. The space is very large and casually elegant. I went there for a seafood fix and wasn't disappointed. The bread was outstanding and the butter that went with it was excellent. Here is my salmon. It was cooked just right, finished but still juicy and flaky. The cherries were a nice adornment but the hazelnut shavings were the star add-on. The Pacific Northwest grows a lot of hazelnuts so the pairing is a natural one. The rich, almost caramel-y taste was a perfect accent to the salmon.
