On the Road: Lunch at Tok Thai Food in Glenallen AK

I stopped here on my last trip to Alaska and enjoyed it so much that I made a point to eat lunch here again. The family also runs a restaurant in Tok, a few hours away. This outpost is at the truck stop in Glenallen. The proprietors are very hard working and friendly. And their food is great. A very satisfying lunch midway through my day's drive. I ate at the table outside, enjoying the warm Alaska day. Thanks, folks!

DIY Lunch in remote Alaska

I was staying well outside Tok and lunch was on my own. Luckily, I prepared during my visit to Fairbanks. I stopped at my favorite bakery truck for a scone. My favorite coop grocery store provided sourdough bread. Add a little peanut butter and voila, a very satisfying lunch. I am grateful.

Lunch at Hari Om in Fairbanks AK

The Richardson Highway connects the last mile of the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks. (In fact, it goes all the way to Valdez in the other direction.) I decided to make a quick trip to Fairbanks to cap off my Alaska Highway tour. Hari Om was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. As always, their recommendation was superb with great food and a wonderful staff. My papadum was presented in chip style, great for dipping. My paneer pasanda was very outstanding, full of nutty flavor. It really set me up for the remainder of my day's drive. Thanks, folks!

Ice Cream at Buffalo Center Drive-In in Delta Junction AK

Buffalo Center Drive-In is across the street from the Alaska Highway's last mile sign. They have a big lawn that is a perfect place for kids to play. Days are long in the summer here and everyone was out enjoying themselves in the evening sun. I enjoyed my ice cream while I thought about all the sights I had seen along my 1400 mile drive. I am grateful for this wondeful experience. And thanks to the folks at Buffalo Center for this treat!

Dinner at Tippy Thai Food Truck at the Last Mile of the Alaska Highway in Delta Junction, Alaska

If you don't see some Thai food nearby, you probably haven't yet made it to Alaska. Thai food and Thai people are fixtures in Alaska, certainly everywhere I've been in the state. I sat outside under the bright northern sky and enjoyed the evening. Thanks, folks!

On The Road: A Backseat Lunch on the Alaska Highway

Lunch stops on the northern part of the Alaska Highway are sparse. When I was hungry for lunch, I found a nice spot to stop and pulled out some groceries from the back seat, including a loaf of sourdough bread from the Village Bakery. My peanut butter sandwich was great. I topped it off with a few biscuits and an apple. The wonderful beauty of this lunch elevated it above a simple road break. I am grateful for the chance to enjoy these wonderful places.

A Trifecta of Meals at Village Bakery in Haines Junction YK

I spent a night in Haines Junction on my Alaska Highway trip. Village Bakery became my go-to meal souirce. Located a block off the Highway, it provides all sorts of great meals served with a smile. My first visit was this great ham sandwich, perfectly toasted. I happened to be there on Friday night, which is salmon bake night. I reserved a plate, of course. When dinner came, I was greeted by this superb meal: loaded with tasty vegetables, topped with a beautiful piece of smoked salmon. All of this was served in the heart of Yukon salmon territory. For breakfast the next morning, I picked up this delicious scone and a big cup of coffee to keep me going on the road. Thanks, folks!
