Tucker: Galaxy Diner

I spied the Galaxy Diner a couple of weeks ago and finally got the chance to try it. It's on Chamblee-Tucker Road just north of I-285. The interior is very homey. The big feature is the huge collection of car photos, which were taken during their Saturday night car rallies. (That sounds like a fun activity...)

The food is classic diner; I had the turkey dinner. What I really enjoyed about the Galaxy was the warm and friendly service. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful; the owner even came over to say hello and adjust a fan. As with all real diners, their dessert selection is vast with huge portions. I tried the devil's food cake and was very happy.

Ann Arbor MI: West End Grill

Trev, Jan, and Karem took me to a wonderful evening at West End Grill located, appropriately enough, in the West End. The restaurant still has its old tin ceiling festooned with stained glass chandeliers. I was too hungry to take a picture of our appetizers: crab cakes and bleu cheese tarts. The crab cakes had just a bit of heat to them, something you don't always find in a crab cake but which worked very well. The bleu cheese tarts lived up to their intriguing premise, rich and tangy. This is my caprese salad. The mozzarella, tomato, and basil were all outstanding. The balsamic vinegar had been very well aged, giving it a thick consistency. My main course was tuna, perfectly prepared to a medium well. The tuna left just enough room for a chocolate lava cake paired with decaf coffee. The cake was rich and moist. I kept scraping my plate to be sure I retrieved all of the chocolate.

Aurora CO: Cedar Creek Pub

Cedar Creek Pub is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado. My CU Denver friends and I adjourned there for good food and discussion. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was excellent: crispy, fluffy beer batter coating tender, moist cod. The fries were great, too.

The Lincoln Flyer's Club

My application to the Lincoln Flyer's Club was recently approved and my new membership came in very handy on a recent trip. The club is operated by the airport and is open to locals who fly 12 times per year. Membership gives you an access card that can get you into the room at any time. The room has a great view and is extremely comfortable. A TV provides a good set of cable channels. And coffee at 6 AM! My delayed flight required me to both wait for another flight and plan out the day. I was able to do so very graciously thanks to the club. Thanks, Lincoln!
