Un Vrai Petit Dejuner de un Artisan Boulanger

A true French breakfast is bread straight from the baker. I decided to enjoy the offerings of Eric Kayser, an artisan baker with locadtions across Paris. Quite the selection of pastries! My pain de chocoalt was perfect. Merci, Chef Kayser!

Hotel Breakfast in Paris

European hotels typically provide a breakfast buffet. This hotel's breakfast included an omelet station, a very welcome addition. My food made for a comforting arrival. Merci!

At The Airport: Lunch at Paschal's

Airports this summer are crowded and understaffed. Food options, like all options, are limited. Paschal's is a ray of sunshine in that bleak landscape. Paschal's food is healthy and delicious. The staff is always friendly. A meat-and-three plate is a touch of home, delicious and satisfying. Thanks, folks!

Lunch at the Oven

My lunch at the Oven in the Lincoln Haymarket was a success: great flavor, texture, and comfort. The staff was friendly and helpful as always. Thanks, folks!

Breakfast at Home

Omelet, apple pie, capuccino. What more could I need? I am grateful.

Basque Cheesecake

I've been curious about the basque-style cheesecake described at the King Arthur Flour site . It uses no water bath, leading to several differences from a traditional, Junior's-style cheesecake. The batter mixed up to a fairly liquid state. I poured it into a springform pan lined with two sheets of parchment. The dark top is one clear difference. The other is that the center is cooked more softly. I overshot the center temperature a little bit but it was still very good. The dark top gives a great burst of flavor to the slice. This is a rich recipe so I could eat only a small slice. Luckily, it stores well in the refrigerator. I ate a slice with capuccino for breakfast. I also shared several slices. Thanks for the recipe, King Arthur!

At The Airport: Philips Seafood at ATL

Flying out of ATL allows me to try different retaurants as my flights use different gates. I was happy to have the chance to eat Philips Seafood. My salmon was healthy and satisfying. The staff was friendly and efficient. Thanks, folks!

On The Pleasures of Dining-In

I ate my first sit-down meal at Harmony in two years. Harmony is a personal favorite and an Atlanta mainstay. I'm glad to see that tey are doing well. And my meal reminded me what we have missed in two years of take-out. My standard meal at Harmony is salt-and-pepper tofu. This dish relies on a careful balance of textures between the soft inside and crispy outside. Take-out and delivery inevitably compromise the outside texture as the steam in the box softens the crust. For the first time in two years, I was able to sit at a table and enjoy this wonderful meal as it is meant to be enjoyed. I am grateful. And thank you, Harmony!

At The Airport: Dinner at Legal Sea Food at DCA

I always enjoy a meal at Legal Sea Food. Enjoying one at the airport is a special treat. The staff at the bar was wonderfully gracious. My salmon was superb. Thanks, folks!

Dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House

Ruth's Chris met my need for a protein-rich dinner. I haven't had a wedge salad for awhile and I enjoyed the experience. My bone-in filet was outstanding, meaty and with great flavor. The staff was very welcoming. Thanks, folks!

Breakfast at Sunnyside on Center in Omaha

I don't often get the chance to have breakfast in Omaha so I was curious to find a new option. Sunnyside on Center was a great choice. It is a small, cheery place with great food. The breakfast is a good value, too. My breakfast was hearty but didn't leave me overstuffed. The coffee hit the spot. Thanks, folks!

Pancakes for Breakfast

Strawberries are everywhere, including my breakfast. My sourdough whole wheat pancakes feature fresh strawberries, bananas, and ricotta. I am grateful for this delicious breakfast.
